Day 6 Kendal to Lockerbie

73 miles in just less than 6 hours. Thanks mum for coming out to Kendal, dinner last nite and the send-off this morning. The climb over Shap was tough - shades of the Dragon ride back in June. Early lunch in Penrith - lots of happy memories from my formative years. Good run up to Carlisle which was surprisingly busy and difficult to ride through. Then a nice run out on the A74 to Gretna Green, the Scottish border and on to Lockerbie to end with a fish supper and a pint of beer. Finding handling the emotional/mental side of things tougher than the physical side. Felt lonely, miles from everyone and heading further away today. Missing my amazingly supportive wife and kids. 85 miles to Stirling tomorrow. Thanks once more for all your messages - you'll never know what a difference they make to how I feel. Good night, John.

  5. What an amazing man you are... the Fulchers remain incredibly impressed and frankly in awe of you.
However, I sincerely hope that you will forget all this cardio-vascular nonsense and return to be the beer swilling, pie eating, swearing and farting northern git that we all love and know still lives underneath all of that rippling muscle. (kidding Vic - promise!)
Nice one John Boy - keep it up!

  10. Please don't feel lonely when so many people are behind you and willing you on.
Keep up the fantastic work you're doing.
Not long now till you can rest those weary pins and get back to your wife and family who must be missing you.
Just think of how proud you will feel when you finish and look back on how much you have helped that charity.
What a story to tell the grandchildren as well!

  11. Keep going pal, EPO Aholic is laid up ill in bed so can't come and ride with you.
Keep the legs turning, just as an aside Alberto's average speed in this years TdF was 24.6 mph. I reckon you can get close to that over the next few days!!

    Keep Smiling
